INN requires several conditions to be met for organizations to retain membership within the network. These conditions serve to bolster credibility and accountability of all members, and to foster a culture of transparency within the network.
INN requires that a member organization be either a (1) a 501(c)(3); (2) have a fiscal sponsor which has 501(c)(3) status; or (3) be affiliated with a university. Furthermore, this status must be plainly stated on the member website, and if applicable, a member’s letter affirming the organization’s 501(c)(3) status from the IRS should be made available as well.
IRS Form 990
INN also requires that all members post their own IRS form 990s on their websites, or if applicable, the 990s of their sponsoring organization. These 990s should be in their entirety, and should not redact any donor information.
Finally, all members must disclose all donors who have given over $1,000, either on their website or on the IRS Form 990. All members should have clearly-articulated donor policies.
